How to Get a Site on the First Page of Google - Part 1

Getting your website on the first page of Google can be a daunting task if you don't have a good understanding of how Google operates and what it looks for when it indexes websites for search engine results.

Back in the early days it was simple to get your website to rank high on a search engine, all one had to do was name the title of the website what ever the keyword was then use that keyword over and over several times somewhere on the page. This is now known as keyword stuffing and you really don't want to try this today because you will surely get you banned or what is commonly know as slapped by Google. And needless to say but, this is not good for your website.

So, how in fact can we get a website to rank high on Google? While there are many ways to achieve this goal, one of the best ways to do this by getting backlinks from other websites to yours or simply put, another website related to your industry, product or service has a hyperlink with your web address on one of it's pages.

For example, if you were a Realtor you could ask the mortgage or title company to place your link (http://yourdomain.com) some where on their website. This link would be pointing back to your website from their website. This is called a backlink.

Google looks for quality websites to have in their search engine results. A larger number of backlinks tell them that your site has something valuable on it as it relates to the subject or industry, so when a website has your link on it, it says to Google that this particular website vouches for your website. The search engine thinks that if you have several websites vouching for your site, then your site must be a quality website.

Other Easier Ways To Get On The First Page of Google

There are other ways to rank higher on Google which would include adding brand new content to your website on a regular basis. This means either writing articles about your subject or industry or paying someone else to write them for you, but new content is a major component, so definitely do this.

Another way to get a message on the 1st page of Google is to use web 2.0 websites with high PR or page rank. These are sites that already have established a great quality rating with Google. There are always new 2.0 websites being created so finding one is easy to do you just have to look for them.

Squidoo, Myspace, Twitter, Craigslist and Quizilla are all web 2.0 sites with high page rank and they allow you to create a page within them where you can then post your message or ad and you can also place a hyperlink back to your site. You can get an up-to-date list of the top web 2.0 websites by doing a search on Alexa.com or a Google search.

The reason web 2.0 sites are so great is because you can write an article, ad or what ever kind of message you want, post it on one of these sites and within 24 hours in many cases your message will show up on the first page of Google's search results for the world to see and if a link to your website is in the message this could result in tons of traffic and exposure for your website.

If you are trying to get internet traffic to your website, there is no difference in having your website on the first page of results or having a web 2.0 site carrying your message, the results will be the same.
